Cultivating Bonsai Is An Absorbing Pastime
Bonsai
Watching bonsai grow and shaping them into amazing sculptures is an absorbing and very rewarding pastime. Growing bonsai isn’t an expensive hobby with few tools required, but a fine bonsai can be much more of a centrepiece in your home than many ornaments can. A bonsai is a living ornament.
Bonsai are pot planted plants or trees that are grown to be miniatures of its natural size tree. Bonsai are created from nearly any perennial woody stemmed trees or shrubs that produce branches and can develop in miniature through pot confinement with the aid of root and crown pruning.
Bonsai trees can be grown from seeds, from young shoots lifted from the wild, (please comply with any laws in respect of taking wild plants or trees in your area), or can be ordered as mature planted bonsai. Obviously growing bonsai trees from seed is the slowest method, but you will then have maximum control over how your bonsai tree will develop.
Bonsai trees are grown in special pots that restrict the development of the roots but also enhance the beauty of your bonsai. Specialist soil mixtures are available that provide the perfect conditions for your bonsai to develop.
Many specialist techniques are used to sculpt and give unique character to your bonsai including leaf trimming, wiring branches, grafting, dwarfing and deadwood, (a method of aging bark). Few specialist tools are needed to shape bonsai trees, and these can easily be purchased for little cost. Everything you require to start growing bonsai trees can easily be purchased from a specialist bonsai nursery.
Bonsai trees can be had as indoor and outdoor varieties, some bonsai are best if they are left outdoors during summer and then brought inside in the winter months.
For those that like the idea, you can purchase artificial bonsai trees.
If you are wondering if growing bonsai is for you, I would say give it a try, bonsai are easy to grow and maintain, and take very little of your time, every bonsai is individual, and who can’t help but to admire a bonsai tree every time they see one.
