Jesse had an unusually hard time maintaining a job. In truth, due to her lassitude and lack of incentive, she was out of a job far more regularly than she was employed with a job. And when she did find a job, she had an awfully difficult time getting to work when her shift began, she usually received less than great performance assessments, and she called off sick so many times that she commonly got fired two or three weeks after she began working. To no one’s disbelief, one of the results of Jesse’s poor employment history was the fact that she was virtually penniless almost everyday.

Despite Jesse’s irresponsible employment track record and financial misbehavior, then again, somehow she made it her business to drink in an excessive and hazardous manner almost everyday. Not surprisingly, her abusive and excessive drinking also led to marital and divorce problems through the years.

Based on her hazardous drinking, it came as no big shock when Jesse got arrested for a fourth DWI. When she went to court, the judge told Jesse that her alcohol-related conduct was irresponsible and, consequently, he was going to sentence Jesse to serve eight months in the city jail.

Time Behind Bars To Reflect On The Hurtful Consequences of Careless Drinking

During her time in jail, Jesse was expected to learn more about alcohol facts, about the negative outcomes of excessive drinking, and she was expected to get alcohol therapy. The magistrate accentuated the fact that unless Jesse receives professional alcohol therapy and discovers how to live an alcohol-free life, she will probably be spending quite a bit of her time locked up.

Jesse articulated that she understood what the magistrate was pronouncing but she still asserted that placement in the municipal jail was not the right ruling. The magistrate thought otherwise and stated that it was his professional responsibility to keep alcohol dependent persons off the streets who drive and drink and who receive multiple DUIs. To substantiate this assertion, the magistrate articulated some venerable, thoroughly researched alcohol statistics that emphasized some of the disruptive effects that are related to abusive drinking.

Even though Jesse knew that she drank abusively, she never felt that she was an individual who was dependent on alcohol. So it was a rude awakening when Jesse began suffering from symptoms of alcohol withdrawal just about three-and-a-half hours after getting locked up in jail.

To manage her alcohol withdrawal symptoms in a harm free manner, Jesse was taken by ambulance to a drug and alcohol treatment facility for alcohol detoxification and then returned to the local jail. While locked up in the county jail Jesse received a mental health assessment for her depression and received alcohol rehabilitation but due to the fact that she got this counseling as something that was forced upon her, she was unsuccessful in taking ownership of her excessive drinking.

When her time in the city jail was finished, the judge stated to Jesse that she would be under careful observation and would be mandated to take periodic urine alcohol tests.

After hearing how Jesse neglected to take ownership of her drinking circumstances and how she unwillingly followed the treatment protocol while behind bars, the judge knew that it was essentially a matter of time before he would be seeing Jesse once again in court about her irresponsible and hazardous drinking behavior. As the judge thought about Jesse’s circumstance, he couldn’t help but think about how some people never ”get it” and discover how to live in an effective and responsible manner.
